About the Book
Holistic Health
What if there was a simpler, better way of achieving and maintaining a long-term overall, health and wellness of the body and mind. The decisions we make in our everyday lives are ultimately controlled by our minds. By gaining a better understanding of how our bodies and minds really work, we can perhaps make healthier choices about our daily routines, like what we eat, and what exercises or physical activities we participate in, and why.
A Closer Look at Holistic Movement
What many of us do for exercise actually limits or restricts our true capabilities of physical movement to just a few repetitive movements. Not only are the individual movements of most exercises extremely repetitive, we also often keep engaging in the same exercises.
Exercises are artificial, unnatural activities created to solve the problems of physical inactivity.
All the body parts involved in performing these repetitive movements or exertions become stronger and more resilient to perform those movements.
However many other parts of our body responsible for generating physical movement are neglected, and will decay from lack of use.
Repetition is the problem, because our bodies automatically repair damages done by physical activity, and it’s these repairs that give us increased strength and resilience. So by repeating the same exercises less damage occurs each time and consequently less repairs are made until eventually, we hit a plateau receiving no more benefits from that particular exercise.
The reason we do this has to do with the very way our brain works. There is no conscious thought to most of our physical movements, and many of the decisions we make.
Repetition makes things easier to do, because this is how we learn. We are usually more likely to do something we already know instead of tring to learn something new or different. This is why participating in new and different physical activities or exercises works our bodies and our brains together.
